Chris Hemsworth Is Open to Making a Real DUNDEE Reboot

A few weeks ago, the world was treated to a surprise trailer for an apparently real movie starring Danny McBride as the son of Crocodile Dundee in Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home. A few days after that we got another trailer featuring Chris Hemsworth as Wally Jr. Something didn’t sit right with most of the internet, and we soon learned that this was not a real movie, but a campaign for Australian tourism.

The response to it, however, was very positive, and the internet did what it always does when it wants something – it started a petition for the movie to be real. When Hemsworth was asked about whether a real Dundee reboot would be a possibility he replied:

“While shooting, Danny McBride and I spoke about if it could be a movie. We started to get worried that if this commercial is as good as we hoped it’s going to be, people are going to be disappointed, we’re going to have to make a movie. But I had so much fun making this commercial, I’d definitely be open to discussions about it.

Hemsworth is a wonderful comedic actor, and has shown he’s more than capable of pulling it off. He was the bright spots in films like Vacation and Ghostbusters. Then mastered the craft in last year’s Thor: Ragnarok. Teaming him up with McBride would be blockbuster gold.

In this day and age, nothing is safe from the reboot treatment. This premise would be more of a “legacy-quel” than a reboot if the same plot is used. I would not be surprised if it happened, and it could be quite fun. The original Crocodile Dundee film has already spawned two sequels, each one a little worse than the last. So, this could get the franchise back on track. If it really wanted to parody the “legacy-quels” of today, the film could end with Danny McBride finding Paul Hogan on a mountain, and have McBride hold out his knife for Hogan to take, much like Rey to Luke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Would you actually like to see a true Dundee reboot, or is the tourism ad enough?
