Teela Confirmed for MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE- David Goyer Shares Images
“I have the power!!!” are words we could be hearing from movie theater screens sooner than we think. The thought of Masters of the Universe being redone and brought back to the the screen has been floating around for years. The last attempt to adapt the classic cartoon was the 1987 version that starred Dolph Lundgren as the wielder of the mighty sword and Frank Langella as the villainous Skeletor.
Our friends at Omega Underground gave us all a flash of hope when they reported last week that Sony was taking charge in moving this production forward and had a possible director in David S. Goyer who has worked on such geek favorites as The Dark Knight (2008), Dark City (1998), and Man of Steel (2013). The excitement level for the film is going to get even higher now that they have shared images of Goyer looking over film art with Carlos Huante who was already tagged as the concept artist for the movie. The two have a work history together as they both worked on Blade: Trinity, which means they have a feel for the direction each one will take as they begin to hatch out a story for this new Masters of The Universe.
The images do not show a whole lot but we do get to see concept art for Teela’s Battle Suit:
They’re still in the early stages of the design work, so there’s no telling if this one will stick when Masters of The Universe eventually enters full-on production.
Something discussed on our flagship show, The Revengers Podcast, is how the tone of Masters of The Universe should hopefully be light and somewhat satirical. Hosts Mario-Francisco Robles, Vanessa Lee Bontea, and Brett Miro are hoping Goyer and co. don’t take the property too seriously. But what do you think?
